Davis Advantage | Three Schools - Harding, Berea, & Hazard

exercises and students are expected to complete those before the applicable exam. “Students can do the quizzing as they go along or they can do it all right before the exam; whatever works for them.” Students receive a completion grade for completing the PLP and quizzing exercises. Juli gives 4 exams each semester plus a final exam. She uses the test bank that accompanies the textbook as a basis for her exams because she wants to make sure she is testing on material that students are learning in the book and online program. “The test bank is very useful as a starting point, but I do tweak the stem or the responses for most of the questions to ensure test security.” Juli is seeing positive results since requiring Davis Advantage activities in her course. “I believe that Davis Advantage helps prepare my students for their exams. I’ve noticed an improvement in test scores. The clinical judgment paperwork that they do in clinical has been very good. I think this is a result of requiring these online activities in addition to having students read the book.” She notes that the quizzing exercises are so important for NCLEX. “I like the Next Gen questions and give extra credit for those. Students have also told me that the Davis Advantage Next Gen questions help them prepare for their standardized exams.” Juli really likes the convenience and usability of Davis Advantage. “I like that the Personalized Learning Plans (PLP) and quizzes are already done for me. And it’s very easy to carry over a course from one semester to the next without having to recreate the entire course.” She also appreciates that students seem to like the Davis Advantage solution. “I get positive feedback that the book is easy to read and comprehend. I’ve even received positive comments about the PLP. Students like how it summarizes the material and highlights the most important points.” For clinical, Juli requires students to purchase the Pocket Guide to Townsend’s Psychiatric Nursing by Karyn I. Morgan. “Students carry this to clinical so they can look things up throughout the day, including care plan information and meds.” The students also use it as a reference to help them with their clinical care plan assignments. The F.A. Davis experience Juli appreciates the service she receives from F.A. Davis. “There are so many options for help including how-to videos and online chat. But I don’t hesitate to pick up the phone when I need to. I have never had a problem getting a quick and helpful response from F. A. Davis. The service is always great.” About Harding University Harding began as a senior college in 1924, when two junior colleges, Arkansas Christian College and Harper College, merged their facilities and assets, adopted the new name of Harding College, and located on the campus of Arkansas Christian in Morrilton, Arkansas. In 1934 Harding was moved to its present site in Searcy, Arkansas. The board of trustees approved the study’s recommended change of Harding to university status, and on Aug. 27, 1979, the name of the institution officially became Harding University. The university offers more than 110 undergraduate majors; 14 preprofessional programs; and more than 40 graduate and professional programs.

“The patient stories in each chapter of Townsend are great. And the students love them, too.” Sooksai Kaewbua, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, RN Visiting Lecturer of Nursing Berea College

Sooksai is a visiting professor at Berea College. She has been teaching psychiatric mental health nursing in their BSN program for 3 years using Davis Advantage for Townsend’s Essentials of Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing by Karyn I. Morgan.
