“I would recommend F.A. Davis to any school that wants to implement a high-quality product in their nursing program.”

Connie Sue Clum, MSN, RN, CIC Associate Professor of Nursing North Idaho College

North Idaho College (NIC) offers both Associate and Practical Nursing degrees. They also offer a PN to RN transition program which admits students into the third semester of the ADN program. As an Associate Professor of Nursing at NIC, Connie Sue Clum currently teaches Pharmacology, Medical-Surgical 1 in the ADN program and a 12-week LPN transition course which is a pre-requisite for students going into the PN to RN program. She has also taught Fundamentals and Physical Assessment in the ADN program and Fundamentals, Medical-Surgical. and Leadership in the PN program. The ADN program admits about 80 students annually, and the PN to RN transition program admits about 8 students annually. Connie Sue notes that many of the students are non-traditional, with the majority being female. The PN Program admits 20 students once per year. The challenge: Finding a reliable vendor with quality products to prepare students for Next Generation NCLEX ® In the Fall of 2020, the North Idaho College ADN program began to look for vendors who could provide them with products to better prepare their students for the Next Generation NCLEX®. The school was using a combination of publishers and students were having difficulty using multiple platforms. There were challenges with service from some of the suppliers, and the faculty wanted to make sure the products being used would effectively prepare students for Next Generation NCLEX®. Nursing faculty reviewed products from three vendors to find a partner with a high-quality solution for a reasonable cost that was student-friendly and easy for faculty to implement. The solution: Davis Advantage across the curriculum The winning vendor was F.A. Davis. “The F.A. Davis sales rep gave us access to the Davis Advantage products so we could preview them. We felt that Davis Advantage was ahead of all of the others as far as the resources provided to prepare students for Next Generation NCLEX®. They made it easy for us to get started using them.” Connie Sue emphasizes that the Davis Advantage products are user-friendly, easy to set up, and have the NGN resources integrated throughout. “Everything is right there. It’s turnkey; we didn’t have to do any extra work to start using it in the classroom.” She also notes that the products are a great value for the students. “There are a lot of good products out there, but the F.A. Davis solution stood out because the products are high quality, student-friendly, and easy for faculty to implement, all at a reasonable cost for the student.” Connie Sue feels that F.A. Davis is “pro-student.” “I appreciate that they will bundle products together so that we can offer a discount for students when purchasing each semester.” Davis Advantage modules are assigned prior to class, and students receive points for completion. “The product organization aligns really well with our curriculum,” says Connie Sue. Students can also go in and take the many practice quizzes to make

sure they understand the concepts. In the third semester, the program assigns the Clinical Judgment Case Studies. Students are required to complete these cases prior to class. “One of the things I like about the Davis Advantage assignments is that they don’t take a lot of time. It’s just the right amount of content without overwhelming the students,” Connie Sue is also impressed with the faculty resources. “They are wonderful. There are so many resources: PowerPoints, e-books, lecture presentations, a great test bank, and an additional test bank of clinical judgment questions.” She appreciates the tracking capabilities in Davis Advantage. “Since we give students points for doing the activities, we need to be able to see that they’ve completed them. It’s really easy for us to track all of this with Davis Advantage.” The result: Continued high NCLEX ® pass rates plus a better experience for faculty and students As they were switching to new products, it was important for the program to continue their high NCLEX® pass rates. “We have been able to maintain the rigor of our program since using the Davis products, as well as maintain our high NCLEX pass rates,” says Connie Sue. In addition, she notes that using Davis Advantage makes the faculty more efficient because the easy setup saves them time. Connie Sue also praises the analytics that come with Davis Advantage. “The analytics tell me the percentage of students who have completed the activities as well as the time spent on those activities. I can get lots of detail on individual students, including whether or not they’ve completed the quizzing and the clinical judgment case studies and how they’ve performed. It’s very visual, so it’s a quick and easy way to assess the data without being overwhelming.” Students are also enthusiastic about Davis Advantage. “They love that it doesn’t take a lot of time to get through the material because personalized learning identifies the specific concepts where they need to spend time. It’s just the right amount of information to help them learn the important material and prepare for class.” Connie Sue notes that students appreciate that they can access quizzing material on their own and spend as much time with it as they need. “Davis Advantage has lots of tools for student success.” The F.A. Davis experience: Connie Sue is very enthusiastic about the service provided by F.A. Davis. “I would say the support Christine has provided is one of the best rewards we have received from making the switch. She is very responsive and very knowledgeable about the products and how they work. She is quick to help me if I have any issues.” She also praises the responsiveness of the F.A. Davis technology support team. “The IT department is wonderful. It’s so nice when a human answers the phone!” Students are also well supported by F.A. Davis. “I will direct the students to the F.A. Davis help desk, and they have never complained about a negative experience. Both the faculty and students feel very well supported.” On a scale of 1-10, Connie gives F.A. Davis a 10. “I would recommend F.A. Davis to any school that wants to implement a high-quality program with user-friendly products and comprehensive resources for faculty and student success.”
