“I honestly love F.A. Davis. They really want what is best for their customers.” Cynthia Laughlin Lead Instructor South Piedmont Community College
Cynthia Laughlin has been Lead Instructor for the LPN program at South Piedmont Community College since January 2022. The LPN program admits 20 students annually and uses a concept-based curriculum. Teaching and learning take place in the classroom with some online assignments completed at home. Cynthia teaches Fundamentals and Medical- Surgical I and II. When she joined the school, the program used F.A. Davis books exclusively for their LPN curriculum. The F.A. Davis solution at work Although Cynthia inherited the F.A. Davis products currently in use by the LPN program, she’s extremely pleased with the outcomes. Since she has been at the school, the program has achieved a...
“I believe that the F.A. Davis materials played a key role in our students’ success.“
Cynthia has nothing but positive feedback about the F.A. Davis products. ü Easy to understand ü Clearly organized ü Consistency across all products ü Right level for LPNs/LVNs
“The books are easy to understand. Content is clearly organized and breaks concepts down in a way that helps students get through the material.” She appreciates the consistent organization across books. “It makes it easy to pick up a FAD book in any subject and start using it.” Cynthia also notes that the content is at the right level for LPN students. “The PN books aren’t as deep. It’s the right amount of information that they need to know as practical nurses.” She is also a fan of the instructor materials. “I have access to so many resources. I use the workbooks, image bank, additional test questions, and PowerPoints.” Cynthia and her students also recently began using the Davis Advantage online modules that come with the books. “At this point, we’re making it available to students as additional resources to help them learn the material. I do assign some modules at the beginning of the course for a complete or incomplete grade, and we also do some of the activities together as a class.” Cynthia appreciates how well the F.A. Davis solution works in their concept-based curriculum. “The materials work well for our CBC. The concepts that we do are organized by systems, so it’s really easy to go through each book and pick out the material we need within the chapters.”

“F.A. Davis really knows what good customer service means. Customer service generally isn’t great these days, but they do an amazing job at it.”
Positive feedback and student satisfaction Not only is the school seeing positive NCLEX results, but they are also receiving positive feedback from their students. “The students really enjoy the F.A. Davis books. The books are so well organized, and every chapter provides a consistent approach to the material. It’s easy for them to find the key points and they tell me the explanations are clear and understandable.” Students use either print or e-books; they have access to both with the F.A. Davis solution. “The majority of my students like having the physical book, but I do have some younger students using the online book with their iPads. Both the students and I appreciate that F. A. Davis provides access to both.” F.A. Davis also makes it easy for the students to purchase their books and resources. “They put together a bundle of all of the print and online codes. Students buy everything in the first semester, so they don’t have to buy anything else during the course of the program.” The F.A. Davis experience Cynthia is extremely enthusiastic about working with F.A. Davis. “I’ve had such a great experience working with our Educational Sales Consultant.” When she first started working at South Piedmont the school was testing an online book system from another provider, and it wasn’t going well. “I called my FA Davis sales rep and he immediately said, ‘what can I do to help?’ When we were approved to go back to buying books for our students, he came in and met with our director to determine our needs. He made it very easy for us to switch back; the process was seamless.” The LPN program has had such a great experience with F.A. Davis, that the ADN program switched to F.A. Davis products. “F.A. Davis really knows what good customer service means. Customer service generally isn’t great these days, but they do an amazing job at it.” F.A.
